Hey All,
Things started to heat up on the Penobscot! We hit that magic 12C 54F on May 2nd, River herring numbers increased from a couple hundred a day into the tens of thousands, the first shad and sea lamprey showed up… as well as 2 Atlantic salmon! This seems to be the temperature when life in the river turns on. In addition to the few smallmouth bass and white suckers, we jumped from 3 to 10 species in 24 hours. Red breast sunfish, fallfish, landlocked salmon, and brook trout all showed up too. Of course, we immediately clouded up and got rain:-( The temperature has dropped a few degrees; things have slowed back down a bit, but it will turn back on as soon as the sun peaks out again and warms things back up.
See the attached report for detailed numbers and trends!
